June is Men’s Health Month — a time to raise awareness about the challenges many men face in silence. It’s also a time for us, as union members and as a Brotherhood, to step up when one of our own is in crisis.
Brother Zackary Rosescu, a proud railway worker and Teamsters member for nearly 9 years, is currently facing one of the most difficult chapters of his life.
In 2022, Zack and his family endured the heartbreaking loss of their baby daughter, Briella. Not long after, he was seriously injured at work while assisting car wreck victims on the tracks in Salmon Arm, BC. While he eventually returned to duty, he did so in chronic pain and was recently forced off work again — this time without access to disability benefits.
Despite his efforts to return, he was only able to come back in a substantially demoted role due to his physical limitations. The stress of that change, combined with ongoing physical, mental, and financial hardship, became overwhelming. On May 16th, Zack attempted to take his own life and has since been hospitalized with no disability leave coverage. His partner — a contract worker — has had to take unpaid time off to support his recovery and assist with his care.
A GoFundMe has been launched by his family to help offset the mounting costs of travel to medical appointments, essential treatments not covered by benefits, and basic living expenses like rent, food, and pet care.
As a union, we talk often about solidarity — and this is what it looks like in action. We have an opportunity to ease some of the burden that Zack and his family are carrying. Whether it’s a financial contribution or simply sharing the link, your support can make a real difference.
No one should feel like they’re facing this kind of struggle alone. If you’re hurting, reach out. If you see someone struggling, speak up. And if you can help, now is the time.
Let’s show Zack and his family that their union stands with them.
In solidarity,
TCRC Calgary
